SETTING BRAILLE PROFILE CUTTERS TO ZERO

This procedure is a one-time operation performed before using a new Braille profile cutter. This is a best practice that will improve productivity. It will allow changing cutters without having to readjust the micrometer. The Braille Profile cutter is for cutting the raised shapes. The spindle spring tension should be adjusted to allow about 1/8” (3.18 mm) spring action.

  1. Turn the micrometer gauge in the direction of increasing numbers until it stops
  2. Back off 4 full turns to 0. Then back off an additional 10 ticks on the micrometer. Tighten the micrometer set screw.
  3. Screw in the Braille Profiling tool (blue label) making sure cutter tip is not sticking out of the nose cone. You may need to adjust cutter offset with the yellow cutter wrench.
  4. Using the arrows on control pendant, move spindle over flat table.
  5. Press Z on the control pendant. (LCD reads Z=0.000 inch up down arrow to change)
  6. Press the down arrow on control pendant until the nose cone touches the table (& there is a slight separation between the snap ring and spindle assembly).
  7. Then loosen the black set screw on the brass collar of the cutter (using yellow wrench) and carefully lower the cutter until it just touches the material. Tighten set screw.
  8. Press check checkmark on the control pendant (spindle raises up). Press X to cancel the XY jog mode.
  9. Remove tool.
  10. Dial themicrometer back (decreasing numbers) 1 full turn + 10 ticks to read 0.

SETTING BRAILLE DRILL CUTTERS TO ZERO

This procedure is a one-time operation performed before using a new Braille drill cutter. This is a best practice that will improve productivity. It will allow changing cutters without having to readjust the micrometer. The Braille drill cutter is for drilling holes for the Braille beads. The spindle spring tension should be adjusted to allow about 1/8” (3.18 mm) spring action.

  1. Turn the micrometer gauge in the direction of increasing numbers until it stops
  2. Back off 4 full turns to 0. Then back off an additional 18 ticks on the micrometer. Tighten the micrometer set screw.
  3. Screw in the Braille drill tool (red label) making sure the cutter tip is not sticking out of the nose cone. You may need to adjust cutter offset with the yellow cutter wrench.
  4. Using the arrows on control pendant, move spindle over flat table.
  5. Press Z on the control pendant. (LCD reads Z=0.000 inch up down arrow to change)
  6. Press the down arrow on control pendant until the nose cone touches the table and there is slight separation between the snap ring and spindle assembly.
